We are half way through day 2 of Narch Winters in San Jose CA and the rink is packed and buzzing. Playoff hockey is underway here and playoff football is on several of the tv’s… At times it’s hard to tell if parents are cheering for their kids or for the 49er’s. No matter who the cheers are directed at the energy in the building is high and everyone seems to be enjoying themselves.
One topic that we continue to hear being discussed is the packed schedule and how early/late games are being played. With only four days to work with Daryn and the rest of the Narch staff had no choice but to burn the candle at both ends. From a sponsors perspective having too many teams is a GREAT problem to have. Our booth has been packed all day long with kids anxious to see our products and of course play some NHL 12 on the Xbox.
The Pro Division is a bit watered down this winters as a few senior platinum level teams are trying to hack it with the big boys. Axiom, Aks, The Mudkittens and Larceny are missing key players, but should all be in the hunt for a playoff spot. The Cyclones are the only Pro Team that has their entire roster here(enough guys to field 2 pro teams actually).
We had to chuckle when reading the Narch blog last nigh that pumped the tires of Larceny’s Travis Noe. We have have been saying that Travis is scary good for years… Cook must have been have been hiding under that rock longer than we thought, but Daryn should know better!
Pro Playoff Predictions
Mr. Noe and Rob Alexander must play their best hockey and Urbano needs to see the puck like it’s a pizza for Larceny to have a shot here in San Jose. The Mudcats still have the ageless CJ Yoder and Leggat between the pipes. Yoder is as smart as they come and Leggat can steal games when he is locked in. Axiom has a good mix of grit and talent. Still not on a lot people’s radar, Skylar Hoar has quietly been getting better and better over the last couple of years and could be a difference maker this winters. You also can’t forget about Jamie Cooke and Raf when talking about Axiom, both of those guys make a huge impact every game. That brings us to to the Cyclones… On paper they should walk away with this tournament. There are too many guys that make an impact on that team so it’s hard to single just a few out… but that could be their downfall. When you look at their squad you have to wonder if there are enough pucks to go around in warm ups let alone the games. However, if they can find a way to gel as a team and share the rock, there is no reason they shouldn’t take gold.
The 49ers just took the lead late and this place is going nuts! Everyone in the High Five Grille is High 5ing and chanting. Our booth still looks like a daycare center and all 3 rinks are ahead of schedule.
Uh Oh! The Saints come right back and everyone is freaking out! No matter who wins this football game, there is still plenty of great hockey to be played here!
